Chimica D'Agostino and Acquedotto Pugliese

Chimica D'Agostino and Acquedotto Pugliese together for a new project. A new plant for the disinfection of drinkable water.

Purate system by Chimica D’Agostino SpA, is the latest technology as to water recovery and treatment. Part of a project promoted by “Acquedotto Pugliese AQP for a fine quality water”, this new conception plant in Europe, in cooperation with Eka Chemicals – a subsidiary by Akzo Nobel, is a definite step forward in the water disinfection process. “Purate” is a balanced mixture of sodium chlorate and hydrogen peroxide, which ,as they react, produce Chlorine Dioxide . Among its many assets, the system does not produce any chlorine residues, thus preventing the formation of chlorohalogenated compounds, with a minimum amount of residual chlorate, if compared to past technologies. Bacteria and other undesired organisms are an indissoluble part of water in reservoirs, rivers and lakes. This demands for more and more sophisticated recovery and depuration treatments, able to guarantee both water purity and the preservation of its natural properties. “Many are the advantages of Purate ” explains Donato D’Agostino, managing director of Chimica Dr. Franco D’Agostino L.t.d. “Water does not only keep all of its organolectic properties, but also, from a more technical point of view, the rapidity of the treatment, reduces to the minimum reaction times, and, consequently, the emission of undesired by-products. This yields better results and proves remarkably cost-effective, compared to similar recovery treatments. The application of this innovative system to Aqp’s plants –continues Donato D’Agostino -follows what has already been successfully experienced in many waterworks in the U.S. Our R&D division in its pilot plants has confirmed our most optimistic expectations: we are proud today to be the protagonists of a significant innovation, with the involvement of the biggest waterworks in Europe. A positive acknowledgement comes from “’Acquedotto Pugliese” : We’ve been monitoring the applied technologies by Chimica d’Agostino and Eka Chemicals on our plants for almost a year” – says Francesco Divella, managing director of Aqp – and we are now ready to launch “Aqp project” which also stands for “Acqua di Qualità Pregiata” ( fine quality water), a further security for the four million people from Puglia who drink our water. Gioacchino Gabbuti, general director of Aqp holds the same opinion and adds: “Today we can surely say that Aqp’s water is the best water we can drink. These newly introduced applied technologies enable us to streamline times, modes, and, therefore, costs in the water treatment process. The same satisfaction is shared by Akzo Nobel/Eka Chemicals’ technicians. “All this” confirms Francesco Passanisi one of the chief executives for Italy, “has been made possible by the expertise and the careful company policy of our local partner, Chimica D’Agostino. Research is one of the main purposes of Chimica D’Agostino, as it is a fundamental element to achieve high-quality standards in innovative processes. Chemical D’Agostino has been operating in the production and marketing of a variety of goods and services for a multitude of commercial sectors, and it is a leading company in the water treatment and recovery sector. Always careful to technological innovations on the worldwide market, Chimica D’Agostino has, nonetheless, been taking into serious consideration the impact of its products on the environment and the respect of a sustainable development.
